Franklin County Courthouse
Hampton, Iowa

Constructed in 1893, the courthouse for Franklin County Iowa is located in the town of Hampton. The Clock tower was wrapped in terne metal designed and manufactured to appear like limestone. It also This technique greatly reduced the weight of the tower, and eliminated the need for masonry supporting walls down through the center of the building.

This timber framed tower was literally rotting away and in danger of complete structural failure. Although the metal work on the building appeared to be of the highest quality, little attention was given to ensure the metal skin was water tight.

Our personnel fabricated and installed Follansbee Terne Coated Stainless Steel II (TCSII) over the entire tower, with a 16oz Copper roof. 100% of the towers is clad in water tight metal.

The owner of the building selected to paint the tower, in keeping with the historical accuracy and to resemble the stone found elsewhere on the building.

This project required the following techniques to be used to complete the work:

  • Brake Forming Metal
  • Pressed Metal
